Monthi Festh 2017
South Kanara Association London

As in previous years since 1998, South Kanara Association London,  celebrated the feast of Nativity of mother Mary on 10th September 2017 at All Saints Church Queensbury, with lot of Devotion and Enthusiasm from the Mangalore Community. An unexpected congregation of 350 Mangloreans was really a surprise to be proud of.

The celebrations started with a procession to adore Our Llady, with offering of flowers by our little children and blessing of the corn as a symbol of new harvest.

Fr Deep Francis Fernandes and Fr Charles Menezes all the way from Spain and Paris officiated the holy Eucharistic Grand Mass, accompanied by our very own choir made the mass a resounding celebration.

After the mass, delicious Manglorean 7-dish vegetarian lunch and traditional vorn was served.  This was followed by stage entertainment by the members of the association.

The welcome dance was perfomed by Matilda Dcosta, solo singing by Baby Riyana Almeida, Gleston Mendonca, Sujith Rodrigues and Rachel Rodrigues, The ladies danced to the tunes of Konkani and tulu songs, Ms Joaanne , Mr Donald d’souza and Archana Menezes danced for a Bollywood number,

Vote of thanks was delivered by our Presdent Mr Sunil D’Cunha, a comedy skit performed by Mr Donald Dsouza , Mrs Gracy Fernandes and Ms Friva Monteiro and the unique Master of ceremony was done by our little champs Sampson Dcunha, Ethan Lobo and Lester Lobo. The vegetable auction was conducted by Mr Prakash Tauro and was bagged by Mrs Sheela Adams Saldanha. The programme was concluded with Live Baila specially sung by the SKA Group.

A heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors and the members who prepared the delicious meal. We appreciate the support from all our guests and the words of appreciations received over emails, phone calls and messages.

SKA LONDON CELEBRATES FEAST OF NATIVITY AND CREATES MILESTONE IN ITS 35 YEAR HISTORY

SKA LONDON CELEBRATES FEAST OF NATIVITY AND CREATES MILESTONE IN ITS 35 YEAR HISTORY

SKA London celebrated its 35th anniversary on 7th September 2014 in a grand style at the All Saints Catholic Church filled to capacity. It almost looked like a fairy tale with a large number of devotes of Mother Mary and supporters of SKA LONDON turning up. The flamboyancy of the guest priest, Father Orlando with his introductory words mixed with succinct and witty anecdotes kept the audience spell bound in the beautiful church to the background of the melodious music. The Mass was traditional and the hymns also were in Konkani. It was home from home to a lot of Mangaloreans. This is the first time SKA London has ever undertaken to celebrate the Feast of Mother Mary in such a grand style in all its history of 35 years. The flower throwing by children, the blessing of the new corn, the offering of garden produce, the orchestrated choir (Olivia, Elizabeth and team and Elvira on the keyboard - all gave the look and feel of a celebration that started well and ended well.  Everything was meticulously planned and aptly executed.

FORTHCOMING SKA LONDON’S 35TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

FORTHCOMING SKA LONDON’S 35TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

The year 2014 is the 35th anniversary of SKA LONDON and SKA is out to celebrate in style. The Managing Committee has specially chosen two events to gratefully thank the entire membership, past and present for their loyalty and dedication in the past 35 years. The first of these events is the Feast of Nativity (Monti Fest) which will be celebrated on Sunday 7th September 2014.  For a number years SKA London has been promoting the Nativity Feast by sending special invitations to members and their guests and actively participating in the activities at a private venue through the generosity of a family of members.

As history goes it was Ron Rodrigues then a keen member of SKA London and now the President, was the pioneer who originally thought of adopting the Feast of Nativity for SKA London by organising the first Feast of Nativity at the All Saints Catholic Church, Kenton in the 1990s.

This year however, SKA London is planning to bring back the traditional Feast of Nativity back into its fold by sending invitations on its own behalf and celebrating the feast in the All Saints Church in Kenton. A traditional Mass will be followed by a very traditional vegetarian meal all subsidised by SKA London.  The only limitation is the capacity of the Church Annexe.  Regrettably the hall has a capacity of 80 and it is very strongly suggested that those wanting to take part in this unique Mangalorean feast should book up early through normal channels. Please see SKA NEWS column for more details.

The second event planned in the 35th anniversary events of the founding of SKA London is the Christmas Dinner & Dance which is tentatively scheduled for 7th December 2014.  This again is a ‘thank you’ event for all the past and present membership and will be heavily subsidised. The venue will be a very classy one. Please watch this space for further details.

Rohan Corporation Mangalore participates in London Property Show

Rohan Corporation, participated in the launch of the Realty India Expo 2014 organised by the Times of India property exhibition in London on 31 May 2014.  The unique Indian properties exhibition was inaugurated by Virendra Sharma, MP (UK) member of International Development Committee, at the Hilton Hotel, London Metropole.

This is the first time Rohan Corporation is exhibiting a showcase of properties in salubrious locations in Mangalore and from the early turnout the response seems to be very good.  A number of people from the Mangalore community have made positive enquiries of properties. Ron Rodrigues, speaking on behalf of SKA London says that visitors from the coastal region of Karnataka are encouraging statistics.

HISTORICAL CANONISATION OF TWO POPES BY TWO LIVING POPES

HISTORICAL CANONISATION OF TWO POPES BY TWO LIVING POPES

VATICAN CITY — Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to the Vatican on Sunday (27 April 2014) for a historic day of four popes, with Francis and Benedict XVI honoring their predecessors John XXIII and John Paul II and declaring them saints in the first ever canonization of two pontiffs.

While the ceremony itself was remarkable, it was Benedict’s presence that added to its historic nature: Never before has a reigning and retired pope celebrated Mass together in public, much less an event honoring two of their most famous predecessors.

Benedict’s presence was also a reflection of the balancing act that Francis envisioned when he decided to canonize John and John Paul together, showing the unity of the Catholic Church by honoring popes beloved to conservatives and progressives alike.
