2015 CHRISTMAS DINNER AND DANCE

The SKA LONDON’s 2015 Christmas Dinner and Dance came to a climax on 6 December 2015 at the Sunlounge Banqueting Hall with nearly 200 members and guests attending the 5-hour non-stop show. An unusually large participation, a sombre, seasonal environment and apt music made the hours go like minutes. The two MCs  Jason and Rupal made sure everything went well to precision.

The afternoon started with the singing of Christmas tunes and carols by the children immaculately dressed to the occasion and trained by Zeeta Rodrigues.  Father Christmas made his appearance at the appointed time and distributed presents to children.

SKA was fortunate to have a Guest of Honour John Prasad Menezes who is the current President of Catholic Association of South Canara (CASK). Mr Menezes spoke about the magazine MANGALORE  which has been running for over hundred years. He urged the audience never to lose touch with their roots in Mangalore, through the magazine.

A Konkani skit played by Pius and Sunil brought out the histrionic talent among the members to the sheer joy and entertainment for those who could understand Konkani to follow the inimical hostility between the Parish Priest and the drunk Parishioner.

The programme that followed can only be described as fantastic. It started off with the rock’n roll dance performed by Rowena, Peter, Chrissy and Sarah and the entire audience joining in for almost an hour to bring the old rock’n roll back into the twenty first century. This was followed by the traditional dances to the tune of English, Konkani and Bangra music. The whole environment looked like it was some beach island far from the madding crowd.

All exhausted and now ready for a pause and the starters having been long forgotten it was time for dinner.  While the majority got stuck in the delicious dinner others continued dancing on the supreme polished dance floor. The tasty dessert marked the end of the dinner. After dinner Nigel Pais organised the unusual ‘Heads or Tails’ game in which everyone participated for £1 for a £50 prize which was won by .....

Then followed continuous music and dancing until the end.  But Chico the resident DJ obliged the dancers still standing with a few more numbers and lastly when the owner of Sun Lounge sang a beautiful Hindi song the party was sadly over.

This years Xmas Dance was one of the best SKA functions. Thanks to Ron for finding the beautiful venue and choosing the food, and Loy for all your hard work, behind the scenes Rupal, Jason and Nigel for their super job as MCs. The food was served on time.It was not too spicey but very tasty and plenty. Even Laura and my grand children who usually do not eat spicey food enjoyed it thoroughly. I think the children enjoyed the games organised by Sheila and Rupal and the Big Santa did a very good job.Three cheers to the Xmas sub-committee and all who made this function a memorable one. Capt.John Prasad thoroughly enjoyed the party and Chico s music and sends a big Thank You.

Great venue, lovely food. It was an enjoyable afternoon. One of the best we attended. Carol singing, skit, games and dance added extra Christmas feel. Well done SKAN.

Loy DSouza, UK Fri, December-11-2015, 2:08
