There have been a few articles before on this website regarding growing bananas in a cold country. Above are some links to previous articles which might be useful in appreciating today’s story about Ron Rodrigues and his perseverance with Mother Nature and her ‘flora and fauna’.  He is not bananas but he now grows them almost out of thin air.

Ron’s story of growing banana plants goes back to about six years when one day sitting in his new conservatory and looking out into the garden and thinking of Mangalore he realised that the only thing lacking in his garden in UK  and which was abundant in his home town is the banana plant and the succulent bunches hanging from them.  How he wished he could recreate the home scene in his back garden in Vista Way, Harrow.  He wasted no time ordering his first ‘plant’ online for £5 and waited for it to arrive, fully expecting it to arrive either in a commercial van or a special delivery because of its size.  Having had no response from the website sellers he contacted them to report non-delivery of his order.  He was quite surprised when they informed him that his order had been despatched the same day and should have arrived by the normal post next day.
