Domestic help murder case: Prime accused gets capital punishment


Kasargod: K C Hamza(58), the culprit in the Safiya murder case has been awarded a death sentence by the Kasargod District sessions court.
safiya murder caseIn the sensational case of the murder of a 14-year-old domestic help Safiya from Ayyangeri in Madikeri more than eight years ago, court has sent Hamza’s wife and an aide to jail. 

K C Hamza’s wife Maimoona(42) who too was involved in the murder has been sent to jail for 6 years and fine of Rs 5000. Her brother Kumble Arkkady M Abdulla(58) has been sent to 3 years of imprisonment and Rs 5000 fine.

The court, which pronounced Hamsa, Maimoona and helper M Abdulla guilty in the case under different charges on Tuesday, sentenced the prime accused to death. Apart from capital punishment Hamza, has been has been asked to pay Rs 10 lakhs and has asked him to give Rs 8 lakhs to Safiya’a family. The second accused Moidu Haji and fifth accused Adoor station ASI Gopalkrishna were released by the court.

Hamsa had taken Safia, a native of Ayyankeri in Coorg, to Kasargod and then to Goa as a domestic help. On 15 December 2006, he killed the girl and chopped the body into three pieces before burying it at a dam construction site in Mollem, Goa.

After the local police failed to solve the case, a Crime Branch team cracked it finding some vital clues using scientific evidence as there were no eye witnesses.

Interestingly, the prime accused himself approached the police in Kasargod district along with the girl’s father, Moidu, to register a complaint about the victim being missing.

In the course of investigation, the officers recovered Safia’s skull and clothes and said that it was found that the 14-year-old was chopped into pieces while she was still alive.
